Sweet Potato Secrets

I always want to make delicious tasting sweet potatoes but have never been able to perfect the recipe.  Finally, I have found the proper temperature to cook them at and have found a good recipe that I make variations from.  I’ve basically used this recipe but switched up the ingredients based on what I had in the cupboards: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/sweet-and-spicy-sweet-potatoes/detail.aspx?event8=1&prop24=SR_Title&e11=sweet%20potatoes&e8=Quick%20Search&event10=1&e7=Home%20Page   If you have a good general idea of what flavours you like (and what would taste good with sweet potatoes), you can create your own variation that will be equally delish!
***use yams or sweet potatoes, i googled the differences and got lost reading about it, to me they taste the same!!!
The Secrets:
Use real yams or sweet potatoes, it is a bit of a pain to have to peel and cube them yourself but the extra effort really makes a difference.
Toss in 2-3 tbsp of olive oil.
Sugar and spice to your liking.  I think brown sugar is a must have ingredient for these to be delicious.

Bake at 425F, toss after 20 minutes, bake for another 15 minutes and test.  I like to make them a bit softer so I usually cook them for about 40-45 minutes total.

Some of the spices I use:
Brown sugar
A couple cloves of fresh garlic minced, or garlic powder (I’ve also used Clubhouse Garlic Plus seasoning which is a good mixture)
Chili powder
Fresh ground pepper
Cumin
I find that “less is more” if you truly love the taste of vegetables (which I do) but I use more seasoning when I’m cooking for the boys or a group.
If you have any good flavour combos, let me know!  Happy cooking :)
