Season 2 of HBO’s Girls starts this Sunday, January 13th!!!  I am so excited!  This show is great and really intriguing.  If you haven’t been watching this show, IMDB describes it as, “The assorted humiliations, disasters and rare triumphs of four very different twenty-something girls”.  I would describe it as very raw, real, and mostly appealing to females under the age of 30.  No matter your age or sex though - if you are interested - I would definitely say tune in.  Even better, you have the next two days to get caught up on Season 1 before Season 2 starts!

In one of the last episodes of the first season there was a really touching conversation between the two characters pictured above.  Kathryn Hahn (the older one) tells Jemima Kirke (the younger one) what she really thinks of her and it goes something like this: “I bet you get into these dramas all of the time, where you cause all of this trouble and you don’t know why,” Kathyrn tells her. “In my opinion, you’re doing it to distact yourself from becoming the person you’re meant to be.  She might not look like what you pictured at 16.  Her job might not be cool, her hair might not be flowing like a mermaid, and she might be really serious about something or someone and she might be a lot happier than you are right now.”

Will you be watching Girls Season 2?

Flashback Movie: Dead Poets Society

I hadn’t seen this movie since high school English but every time I was reminded of it, I remembered how I much I enjoyed it.
So I was out running errands one day and I had this craving to watch this movie. When I got home I searched it up on the TV guide and found tht it was playing the next morning! Score! I set up a recording on that ASAP and watched it the next day.

This movie is a well written drama that takes place in the 1950s starring Robin Wlliams (as John Keating) and a young Ethan Hawke. It takes place at an all boys boarding school, primarily in the boys English class which is taught by Williams. He teaches them to be unconventional and to follow their dreams no matter what. He encourages them to be poetic and to write from the heart.

This is an emotional movie that is inspirational in an odd way.  The characters are well developed, and it is easy to relate to at least one of them (even if they are boys in the 1950s).  I won’t butcher it by saying anything else but I will share some of my favourite quotes from the movie.

“John Keating: O Captain, my Captain. Who knows where that comes from? Anybody? Not a clue? It’s from a poem by Walt Whitman about Mr. Abraham Lincoln. Now in this class you can either call me Mr. Keating, or if you’re slightly more daring, O Captain my Captain. “

“John Keating: We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, “O me! O life!… of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless… of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?” Answer. That you are here - that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play *goes on* and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?   “

If you’ve seen this movie, let me know what you think!!

Four Simple Goals Before 2013

I love reading different blogs all over the internet and one of my new faves is http://www.abeautifulmess.com !  It is two sisters who post all sorts of different and great blogs in many different theme groups.  Recently they posted a blog about making four simple goals before 2013.  The best thing about these goals is that they are meant to be simple and activity oriented goals.  You can read more about how to make 4 simple goals before 2013 by clicking on the picture above.  (*picture borrowed from abeautifulmess.com)

I definitely think goal setting is a great way to accomplish things in life.  Many of the most successful people in the world have written about the fact that making goals followed by action plans is the best way to get things done, and I fully agree with them!

Until the end of the year I will be trying to accomplish these four simple goals.  I will update you along the way to track my progress!

My four goals:

1.  Eat 5-10 fruits and vegetable servings each day.  Follow the Canadian Food Guide!  I’m going to be planning meals out in advance to help bring this one to life!

2.  Get 30 minutes of fitness each day!  Go for walk, a jog, to the gym, pilates, yoga, anything, get moving!!

3.  Work on my business plan for 30 minutes each day.  This is like doing a project in school, if you do a little bit of work towards it each day, you don’t have to rush to get it all done just before it’s due!

4.  Read for at least 30 minutes each day.  Read a book, some blogs, a magazine article, the newspaper.  It’s a good way to tune off the outside world for a bit and it’s not sitting in front of the TV!

…to be extra ambitious I added one more: #5.  Get even more organized!  (I already am pretty organized but I think I’m going to take it to a new level!)  I’m going to be meal planning, outfit planning, to-do listing, making my living spaces more livable, and generally making my life a bit easier!

Are you a goal setter?  Are you thinking about making four simple goals to accomplish before 2013?  If you do, I’d love to hear what you’re going to take on and how it goes for you!

Duct Tape Cases

I’ve been getting my craft on a lot these days.  I like to keep busy doing different things and crafting has become one of those things!  I got the instructions for the iPad case from the “PS I Made This” website and I was so pleased with the way it turned out I crafted myself an iPhone case also!  My fave thing about making different crafts is that I always get something out of it (like jewelry or decorations or carrying cases or w/e).

I get inspiration from all over the internet and I keep a “Crafty” pinboard on Pinterest with things I’m going to try.  You can learn how to make your own iPad case here: http://pinterest.com/pin/216946907020633741

What do you think?  Do you ever make crafts?  What style of crafts do you like to try?
